What’s Up?

Click here to sign up for the South challenge on Saturday at Morley Field. Sign up for a Saturday, 1/22/22 tee time here.

Click here to sign up for the North challenge on Sunday at Kit Carson Park.

What do I get?

Membership in the San Diego Aces Disc Golf Club costs $20 each year. Your $20 includes a membership disc with the club logo stamped on it, a numbered bag tag that you can use for challenges (Ladies get a standard tag and a special “SD Ladies” tag) and helps the club cover other operational costs. An important part of those “operational costs” is the liability insurance that the club carries that allows the courses at Brengle Terrace Park, Mast Park and Kit Carson Park to exist. That insurance is also used by local Tournament Directors who run PDGA-sanctioned tournaments. The club also pays for maintenance on the disc golf baskets and tees at many of our courses , along with sponsoring tee signs at local tournaments. Since 2007, the SD Aces have been integral in growing and supporting disc golf in San Diego County!

What’s up with the UDisc thing?

UDisc is a great smartphone-based scoring app that makes events like this much easier to run. We have a UDisc League set up named “San Diego Aces Bag Tags“. The UDisc app is free for basic scorekeeping (there’s also a paid membership that gives you more features). Open the app and tap on “Events” to find UDisc Leagues and choose the “San Diego Aces Bag Tags” league. Join the league and check in to play in the bag tag challenge (there’s a separate “event” for Saturday and Sunday). Using UDisc to keep score will make it MUCH EASIER for us to organize the scores so you can get your bag tag quickly at the end of each day. Not tech savvy or stubborn? We’ll accept paper scorecards too…@%$&!

How do the bag tags work?

This weekend we will pass out bag tags to players based on their scores on Saturday and Sunday. We’ll assign odd-numbered tags on Saturday at Morley and even-numbered tags at Kit Carson. The object of the bag tags is to encourage competitive play among members, with the goal of getting the lowest tag number you can. Every round you play is a bag tag round! It’s pretty simple: the player who gets the lowest score when you play gets the lowest number tag. Tags 1 through 10 are highly sought-after! These are the “Black Tags” – this year they are distinctive! Tags 1-10 are rectangular, made of hickory wood and painted black with gold print. When you hold a black tag, you don’t have to pay an entry fee at our club monthlies (we want you to show up and put the tag up for challenge!). The remaining bag tags are round and made of metal. Tags 11 through 25 are white (in contrast to the black of 1-10) and then the remaining tags up to 300 are in blocks of color, based on the tag number. The numbers go up as the colors progress across the rainbow -> red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple…which allows members an easy way to de-code whether another player has a lower or higher number. Turn every round you play into a tag match, whether it’s a casual round with friends or a PDGA-sanctioned tournament. And yes, wagering is allowed!

I can’t get there in time to play! Can I still get a tag and disc?

Of course! Morley will run out of tee times on Saturday – we’re sure of that. Or maybe you can’t get there or to KCP until 4pm, without enough time to play a full round. You can still sign up online and stop by to get a membership disc and a higher-number bag tag. Then challenge someone and get that lower tag next week!

Where will the discs and tags be?

We will have a pop-up tent and tables set up near the practice baskets at Morley on Saturday and Kit Carson on Sunday. Look for the San Diego Aces and Innova banners. We’ll be easy to spot.

We will be holding more events in the future. The Morley Field Ice Bowl on Saturday, 2/12/2022 will be our next event. Online Aces membership signups will be available starting next week on discgolf.com.

    Allen,
Is there a requirement to play with someone else on the card to verify score? I think I can get my buddy out on Saturday but I’m not sure.

    Thanks,
    Ethan

Yes, you should play with another so your score can be verified. If you’re playing Saturday at Morley make sure you have a tee time! You’ll most likely have others playing with you there…it’s pretty busy on Saturday!
