Club President – Allen Risley

ARwKF

It is my honor and pleasure to serve as the President of the San Diego Aces this year.  Disc golf has been a big part of my life for over 30 years.  My friends and I started out throwing our Wham-O Frisbees at fire hydrants and street signs in the neighborhood, but as soon as we heard the chains on the baskets at Rockledge Disc Golf Course in Florida, there was no turning back.

I played as an Open Pro back in the 70’s and 80’s, competing in the  PDGA World Championships in 1983, 84 and 85.  During that time I also authored the first PDGA Course Directory – a little pamphlet that over the years has grown into the online databases on PDGA.com and DGCR.  Grad school, moving cross-country for a new job, and fatherhood sidetracked my disc golf game for several years, until my son got interested in the basket in our backyard (lucky me!).

I still enjoy tournament disc golf, playing in a dozen or so tournaments a year as an Amateur Master or Grandmaster.  But I spend much more time organizing disc golf events, installing disc golf courses and teaching new players about the sport.  I designed the disc golf courses at Montiel and Sunset Parks in San Marcos and Cal State San Marcos, and co-designed the disc golf layout at Goat Hill with other Aces members and friends from Innova Disc Golf.  And two years ago the folks at Innova were kind enough to add me to their Ambassador Team – a group of sponsored players who donate lots of time to furthering disc golf.

I encourage you to get out and play today!  Disc golf is a great lifetime sport, and we have a wonderful selection of local courses and abundant sunshine to help us enjoy the game.  And if you’d like to help out with our many events, have an idea you’d like to share or a gripe you’d like to make, feel free to contact me at rizbee@teamrizbee.com

Thanks!

Allen Risley

Trying to figure out when and where your next Doubles Tournament will be held. I messaged on Facebook a few days ago as well. Also, I am looking to become a member and the only link/page I could find was for 2021.
