City of Santee will be opening the renovated disc golf course in January 2020. Concession stand will be selling burgers an beer at the course. Look for Burgers Bones and Beer coming soon.
I noticed you’ve held an Ice Bowl Tournament in the past at the Mission Bay Golf Course. I was wondering if there are any future plans of establishing permanent disc golf baskets there?
You’re psychic! Baskets are in at Mission Bay!
Hey I was wondering how we can help get a disc golf course in my city?
Our city is carlsbad and wondering what we can do to help get our city a course
Thank you
Shawn Martin
Hi Shawn – The best thing for you to do right now is to contact the Parks Department in Carlsbad and ask them the same question. It’s only after they hear from enough residents like yourself that they will listen to club representatives when we contact them about adding a course. Attempts have been made in the past to get a course in Carlsbad, but probably not at the right location. It’s on our radar to go back to them again soon.

Hello. Sounds like a good group of ppl. Im Kyle from Miami and moving to SD. I like disc golf and looking for advice on where to live. I work at museums or zoo/ parks. Please let me know if you have any ideas or contacts for me, see ya soon
Hi Kyle, Sorry I just got this. Escondido is close to the wild animal park. The zoo is in downtown San Diego.
Are there tourneys at Goat and Sun Valley this season. Cant find any info and trying to plan a schedule
Sun Valley is holding it’s weekly doubles league. Things are a bit hit or miss at the Goat right now, but we’re trying to get a monthly-style tournament set up for May or June.
So, any hope of having a PDGA San Diego league? It’d be awesome to be able to work on my ranking a bit between tournaments.
We agree! Now we need to find someone(s) to take on the task. We’ll bring it up for discussion at the April board meeting.
It still requires a registered TD to head the event, correct?
There has to be a TD, but the PDGA may allow first time TDs for these leagues. We’ll ask the PDGA State Coordinator this weekend.
I was at the tournament at Kit carson this weekend and watched my husband’s spirit get crushed. He battled for 56 holes to come out victorious by 1 stroke. He lost it all in that “final four”. I think the final four or final 9 are ridiculous. If someone battles for 3 rounds and comes out victorious, no one should have the opportunity to take that away. The open players refused to do it. They got to keep the spots they had fought for and won. Doesn’t seem like fair sportsmanship when someone can just step up and take away your win in four holes when youv’e fought so hard to get it. Just my opinion, but you should do away with that part of your sport.
Hi Carla,
The final four was something that was publicized at the time of registration. I am sorry but he didn’t come out victorious, as the event was not over after 56 holes (there were 60 to be played for the top players in each division). He should hold his head up high for his performance this weekend. He fought hard and played well.
Collectively, the three MPO players that were in the final four decided that playing these holes would not change the outcome of the event (because the leader had a 4 stroke advantage). Maybe (in retrospect) I should have told them that they had to play. If I said they had to play, they would have without question. However, as a reward to the volunteers, I suggested to the top MPO players to go and watch the guys that helped all weekend battle the four holes for a prize.
Finals are an opportunity for players to gain experience in pressure situations they would typically see in a bigger tournament or at Worlds. Finals happen at a lot of events and are a place for the top players to show their skills to spectators and other participants.
Like all sports, play is to the final whistle (as Team USA found out the other day when they had to settle for a tie after leading at the end of regulation and almost 5 minutes into extra time). At our event, the final whistle blew after the final four.
Sincerely,
Mark Verrochi
Tournament Director
Shootout at KCP
It was made aware to all players how the tournament would be played. Someone will always win and someone will always loose. By one stroke or ten, I am sure you would feel different if he had squeaked in and then was able to win. Keep the head up and feel good about performing well, winning is not everything in disc golf.
Hey,
I signed up on 02/08/14 at the monthlies at Morley…signed up with Jason, got my tag but the requested disc was not available. Was told disc would be available in the next few days, but I spaced and forgot to get Jason’s contact info. Can I get the disc somewhere else or do you have his contact info? Thanks in advance for any help
Your best bet is to get back in touch with Jason, since he will remember your transaction. His e-mail is jasonperdue2107@gmail.com
Hi Ryan,
I believe I owe you a Cannon (correct?). Please email me at mtv@alum.wpi.edu. I need to verify if anyone on the board has any more (we didn’t have a meeting this month due to illness). If we are out, we will be placing another order. If you want a different disc, let Jason know or myself and we will hook you up ASAP.
Anybody know when Montiel will actually be re-opened?
Sign says Feb 11, obviously incorrect…still all torn up.
I guess that’s how these things go
Ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for march 7th.
I have a few friends wanting to buy 2014 tags, but when we went to the pro shop at Kit Carson, the guy working there said he would no longer sell the tags. He said to buy the disc and tag online, but the site still has the 2013 membership info only. How can they get Aces memberships for 2014?
San Diego Aces membership discs and tags are now back in stock at SDSF!
When will the players pack for the ace race be ready to pick up, for those of us who lagged and signed up day of?
Hi Joe – Ace Race player packs and discs were delivered to us a few weeks ago and we sent out e-mails to players informing them of dates/times when we would be passing them out. If you still haven’t gotten your stuff. Send me an e-mail at ajrisley@yahoo.com.
Thanks,
Allen Risley
I received a mini-disc with the number 759 on it last weekend while playing at Kit Carson for throwing closest to the pin of my group. Thanks! Is this a legit “Bag Tag”?
–
Sorry, but if you look at the mini you’ll see that it is from a previous year. Each year we print new numbered bag tags, old tags can be held on for bragging rights. Each year we have some number of leftover tags at the end of the year which we pass out to players who don’t have a mini marker.
Now, you can get a legit bag tag if you join…
Hello All,
I recently became a member and I’m interested in playing doubles at the courses in and around SD. Unfortunately I have no idea how to get involved or which of the games are played i.e. best shot, worst shot… Etc. or how/if the selection for teams goes. I’m newish to the game and have never played doubles. Any advise would help.
Hey Ethan,
We have doubles leages as follows:
Saturday 9AM @ Kit Carson
Monday 5PM @ Montiel
Tuesday 5PM @ Kit Carson
Wednesday and Friday at Montiel (check on morleyfield.com for times and details)
The doubles leagues at Kit Carson and Montiel are randomly selected best shot doubles. We divide the group into two categories (A and B) based upon skill level and always randomly match one A and one B player together. This allows everyone the chance to win. Doubles cost $5 to play. It is a great way of learning the rules of the game and meeting people that play the game.
I am wondering if anyone has a way to contact Wes Dorffi about playing the Dorffi Back Forty
SD Aces
I live in the San Diego County Estates and was speaking to the recreation department about a disc golf course.
. They told me that they tried to put one in before but S D County fees were too high… Looking for help / ideas.

Darrell,
Please email me with the details and information and I will be happy to assist you(mtv@alum.wpi.edu).

Hi San Diego Ace Club Members! My name is Jonathan and I started playing Disc Golf last year in January. I Love This Sport and I am getting better at it. This is my first year being a member of this great organization. I signed up mid January and received tag number 201. I played with some people at Morley Field and won tag number 56! Unfortunately I had a rematch and had to defend it and lost so I got back my 201 tag. The sad thing is that I somehow lost my tag at Morley Field about 2 weeks ago! It may have fell out my bag or maybe someone took it from my bag while I was at the P-hole(Hope not!) If anyone seen or knows what I can do to get it back please let me know! I wish I had a tag still and I want more challenges! Thanks! Happy Disc Golfing!
Good to see you love throwing. If you got that tag last year, 2011, then that would be what you finished the year with. Hopefully someone turns it in to the pro shop. To challenge people in 2012 you need to buy a 2012 tag. Same deal, $20 for a disc and tag.
Mast Park in Santee needs an 18 hole course. I was looking for course sites on Google Earth and thought Mast Park, behind Walmart, would be an excellent location. Some trees, next to the river, some open dirt areas and it’s already park land. It is only a couple of blocks away from the newly completed 52 freeway and the 125 freeway. Grossmont College would be just up the hill about 2 miles from there. That would help draw in lots of new players and spread the word more quickly about disc golf. Putting a course next to a local community college would light up the social networks. It would be a nice place for a third South course, Morley in North Park, Sun Valley in La Mesa and Mast Park in Santee. Santee has a better climate than El Cajon with all that heat and smog. Morley and Sun Valley are too busy and there is usually a wait at the first tee to start. There are atleast 5 courses in North County with another coming to Vista. We’re ready here in East county for our first course.
Thank You,
Shawn Ludlow
Found an aces stamp leopard last week at Morley. It dosent have a name on it so Tell me the weight and color then and I can give it back.
Hi San Diego Aces,
Has anyone ever been to Harry Griffith Park behind Grossmont High School in La Mesa? There is a section of the park in the back that I never see anybody using. It would be a great section of the park to make nine holes. Has anyone ever looked into this? East County San Diego needs another place to play that is FREE like North County. Just a thought!
Neil
Hey,
I couldn’t find the registration for the Goal Hill monthly on DiscGolfU.com. Are you still having a monthly on the first Sunday of September?
Hi Matt,
T.J. Cruz has posted on the Aces facebook page and the Goat Hill page that he is running the September monthly at Goat Hill. His e-mail address is listed above. Check with him on how he is handling registration.
I just moved out here from Austin and I was wondering if you had to be a member to participate in the Saturday doubles and other local stuff? Looking forward to playing some Cali courses.
Hi Daniel,
You do not need to be a club member to participate in any of the weekly doubles events – just come out (with $5) and play! Also – if you like tournaments, one of the best local tournaments of the year is the Sun Valley Open this weekend. Sign up now!!
in the area for the week, need to pick up a putter. What shops are local to Mira Mesa, or Balboa or Kearney Mesa etc…
Thanks
Hi Jamie – There are no disc-specific stores in Mira Mesa or Kearney Mesa, but all of the big-box sporting good stores around here carry Innova discs, so you should be able to get an Aviar. If by Balboa you mean the area around Balboa Ave, see the previous sentence. If you mean Balboa Park (Morley Field) then the Morley Pro Shop is your best bet – they have the best selection in town.
If you’re in North County, the SDSF Skate Shop at Kit Carson Park carries several different brands, and the pro shop at Goat Hill Golf Course in Oceanside carries Innova and DGA.
Happy Hunting!
Greetings, can you guys please check something for me.
I went to the registration website to sign up for the Sun Valley Open.
I signed up for MA1 = $50
I am not PDGA = $10
I am not SoCal = $5
Service Charge = $4.50
my total charge should be $69.50
when I go to checkout it is giving me a final charge of $79.50 and there is a “Custom Fee” of $15.00
Is the website charging me $10.00 twice b/c I’m not PDGA, once in the PDGA fee and again in the SoCal fee?
Otherwise, where does the additional $10.00 come from?
Thank you
Hi Hawk – The San Diego Aces do not run the Sun Valley Open, so the club does not know the details of how the registration web site is set up. There should be contact information for the tournament director (David Parnell) on the registration web site. He’s the person who can answer your questions.
Hey guys,
i live in st.louis missouri and im coming out to play the goat hill event, but i cant get ahold of anyone with info!!! Id love to test my skills against the pros is cali =) Thanks!

Hi Corey – check out the tournament registration page at: http://www.discgolfunited.com/disc-golf-tournaments/tournament-dashboard.cfm/tourn_id/213
This should answer most questions, and it also has the TD’s e-mail address and phone number. He’s the best person to ask questions of.
i was wondering, do i have to be signed up for pdga in order to be member of san diego aces?
No, you do not. While the Aces are an affiliate club with the PDGA, you do not need to sign up for the PDGA in order to be an Aces member.
My 12 year old son loves playing disc golf, so I was looking for some kind of youth organization, club, team, etc. for him to play with – do you know of any in San Diego? I see a link to a youth disc golf association on your website, but when I click on it, it doesn’t go anywhere. I’d appreciate it if you could provide me with any info you might have. Thank you!
Just a quick hello to the community. I am moving to Carlsbad from Conifer Colorado (outside of Denver) – avid player – but not a pro by any stretch. Looking forward to meeting everyone and getting involved. Looking for folks to play with and help me navigate the local courses – eves and weekends.
Andy
Hi Andy – Welcome to San Diego disc golf! As you can see by our lead article, we have 6 courses in San Diego County, the closest to Carlsbad will be in San Marcos (3 to choose from) and Escondido. Morley Field in San Diego’s Balboa Park is a great course with a long and storied tradition, and Sun Valley in La Mesa (farthest from you) hosts one of our area’s favorite PDGA tournaments, the Sun Valley Open.
The San Diego Aces sponsor doubles at Kit Carson Park on Saturdays @ 9am and Montiel Park Mondays @ 5:15pm – everyone is welcome. There are also weekly doubles leagues at Morley Field, which also holds a long-running monthly tournament on the third Saturday of each month.
Please consider joining the San Diego Aces club – you can do so on this web site or in-person with a course representative (like me). The Aces have helped pay for the two most recent 18-hole courses in the area (Kit Carson Park and Cal State San Marcos)
Welcome!

I am a North County tag holder… Me and my buddies are wondering what is it gonna cost to sponsor a hole at Kit Carson Park… or do you just need cement??
George from Escondido
Hey George,
Contact Ryan Meyer at ryanmeyer@wolfpacksigns.com with questions about Kit Carson sponsorship or how you can help with the installation.
Allen
Hey Guys,
Does the your club or any other DG organizations here in S.D. ever put on any clinics? I’m looking to get back into DG after not playing for the last 2.5-3 years since moving here from South Lake Tahoe where I used to play a moderate amount. Never really put much effort into bettering my technique & results but would like too now. Also, anyone know any good locations to practice drives near 4S Ranch/Poway? I’m still looking around but all the fields I’ve found so far near me aren’t open to walk on’s all the time. Most of them are schools.
Any help would be appreciated.
Mark
Hey Mark,
I live in Poway as well. There are quite a few parks around Poway that are large enough to practice your driving at. Hileary Park off Community, Starridge Park off of Carriage Rd, Garden Road Park off of Garden Road, and Sabre Springs park. Granted, none of these are terribly close to the 4S ranch side of town.
Hope this helped!
Adam
